I received a private message castigating me for putting the "*" instead of the "i" in my postings relating to members of the Paridae family. There is no ulterior or prudish motive for this - I only have Computer access at the local library and Lincolnshire County Council computers do not allow me to send Emails with that word in them! Hence the asterix. Hope that helps the gentleman who was upset by it!

How does the computer respond to Phalacrocorax aristotelis? Not that one gets many around Mkt Rasen.

A few years ago I had a problem with the island of Lesvos when trying to type in the Anglicised version of its Greek spelling.

Thanks for the anticipated replies! In answer to your comment, John, I once was telephoned about a ringed Shag found at Tealby after strong easterlies - it turned out it had been ringed as a nestling on the Isle of May. Also, if this appears on the Forum it will answer your question!!
