We were not there, nothing to do with us!!!!!! Argue amongst yourselves, but once again it was mobbed by Buzzards.

I can now solve the mystery of who saw the Goshawk at MSQ on the 21st of march,it was Craig Nimock who saw it and apparently saw it very well ,it was being mobbed by a buzzard and was a juv male gos,well seen by a well respected highly experienced birder of many many years standing.this is either the 2d or 3rd record.
The first goshawk recorded at messingham was on the 23rd of march 1992,it was seen over the wader hide,above the observers head well seen ,a clear female goshawk,huge buzzard sized,which after briefly soaring flew slowly off crow like fashion flight but poweful wingbeats heading off eventually towards manton.
the observer was on that occasion,......me.
ive seen since that day 2 futher gossys: one male at gokewell,near broughton sighted with d johnson and another male also with dave at manton,one october one december,several years ago now,both birds seen well throu scopes also as well as bins.
Maybe now this notion that Goshawks are not and in some peoples minds should not be seen in lincolnshire can be put to rest,me and dave have had to live with our records being ridiculed by one person in particular who i cannot name and others,ive waited for this moment,i knew it would come soon,dont forget thou,j harriman has seen some gossies hes certain of in the last 10 years within the scunny environs,

At the risk of once again reigniting this old flame, you have no proof of any kind of 'spread' (breeding etc). Still no photos of Goshawks seen in Lincs which is remarkable considering so many have been seen well.

Once again you are wrong Steve Botham has a perfectly good photo of a Goshawk flying over Bouton mere lincoln-so get your facts right!!!!One must add josh -have you seen a Goshawk in linc,no???that would be the reason for your incorrect bias veiwpoint!!I have to say this and only this we are talking about a very experieinced birder here who initially was of the anti goshawk camp,althou he did say to me he had a possible goss once on brougton carrs,Craig Nimock is a very experienced birder,travelled widely abroad birding,he has now seen a juv male,which is easily recognisable when seen well,which he did see well,hell fire to see a goss is hard enough to get a photo?even dick forsmans raptors book does not have a plentiful supply of juv males photos.
rest assured josh this was a goshawk.

I will also agree with Roger's comment's(There's a first time for everything),that Craig is a very competent and experienced birder and there will be no doubt as to what he has seen,i just wish i had been there as well.Has anyone actually looked since?if the weather isn't too bad at the weekend iam going to give Manton Warren a try.For anyone interested in looking at photo's of Goshawk's check out this Finnish site http://www.birdphoto.fi/ for excellant photo's and the distinct call's of the species.

Don't forget that before all the doubters started being silly I had 2 definite records at MSQ. I have been birding in excess of 30 years and spent many a long day at Windy Corner plus other spots watching Goshawks. I have also seen them in various places abroad and am very familiar with the species. Thank goodness Craigs now seen one, because as a Lincs newcomer ( only 11 years) my records were not good enough for the unbelievers. However, as many of us know you can trust a Yorkshire birder!!!! Well done Craig.

hi Josh,Steve Alan and et al,he gets around et al,ive been going to msq nearly every day-but no luck-,today Craig was off work and i met him at msq,he gave me a full account of the sighting,he saw it standing on the side of the beck which runs from that water pipe,it was close over the silver birch wood land at one point mobbed by a buzzard,he could clearly see the streaking on the underside(diagnostic) eventually flew off in the direction of twiggy/manton area.Cracking good phtos on site suggested by steve,everyone must look on that site!!!.
Steve i was thinking of going on that footpath towards manton myself and hanging round,if the weather allows!!!.
I add my Praise to Craig,he works blinkin hard for what he finds,as most of us do i guess.but well done to Craig!!!.

Pity about the big Copyright on every image - but apart from that it is impressive. The shear number of images is amazing, and the quality of the few I looked at is also very high....

Hi Roger, I got on to the back end of a bird which was seen by 4 others and identified as a Goshawk. I couldn't comment either way as my views were very poor. So your "get your facts right" comment is a bit rich dont you think?
