My wife and I were watching a female Mallard proudly parading it's 8 recently hatched brood on our front lawn today when a Carrion Crow swooped; and then there were seven!
It reminded me of a trip to the Wyre Forest many years ago when our local birding group were studying the plumage details of a confiding Dipper, only for a female Sparrowhawk to abruptly terminate our line of thought.
