Hi All,
Graham Catley is 100% correct. Spreading news about any breeding bird locality, Schedule 1 or otherwise, unless the birds are visible from an organised distant view point e.g. the Monty’s or a public hide, is bound to increase disturbance to the birds. Please read my message
http://www.lincsbirdclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7466 for full clarification on this point.
All members of the LBC Forum are encouraged to submit records of rare breeding birds through the confidential records system -
http://lincsbirds.co.uk/tinc?key=gUQZvcgw&formname=report. I am aware that a large number of Lincolnshire birders (NOT all are LBC members) use this method. It provides valuable data which is available to members – see
http://www.lincsbirdclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6139 (Colin and Shelia’s 2nd posting)
Regarding Schedule 1 Birds - For those who do not know, a list of all Schedule 1 birds can be found at -
http://www.jncc.gov.uk/PDF/waca1981_schedule1.pdf.
Regarding access to the forum: Personally, I see no reason why the forum should not be open to all to read, and I also see no reason why it should not be open for all to submit. However, the reason the site is NOW for LBC members only, is because the LBC members requested this at the 2007 LBC AGM. I am not in a position to overturn a decision made by members at the AGM. If anyone feels particularly strongly about making the site MORE secure or equally allowing non LBC members to post on the site, then they need to bring it up with a member of the LBC committee - click here for contact details -
http://www.lincsbirdclub.co.uk/lbc_contacts.htm.
Regarding Moderation: There are a group of administrators who do moderate the LBC Forum. I am able to access the forum ‘log’ and I can see that they regularly moderate and edit posts on the LBC Forum. Unfortunately some postings are missed, and a few have been over looked – BUT the majority are dealt with quickly and professionally – and I would like to thank the administrators for their help in this matter.
And finally, yes John, I am now going to lock this topic because it has gone on too long. If anyone wishes to make further comments, please contact me by Private Message. Please feel free to say whatever you want, but do remember I am a volunteer, spending a considerable amount of time keeping the Forun running when I should be out doing my next BTO Atlas survey...which is overdue....
Regards
Andrew
