With only a moderate breeze today and reasonable temperatures, I thought I would try for the 3 'good birds' at Covenham Reservoir. An invigorating clockwise complete circuit of the Reservoir (12.00 -2.00pm) produced :
Purple Sandpiper - at the water's edge (occasionally harassed by an aggressive Redshank); a very approachable bird. Grey Phalarope - c 1-2m from the water's edge; also very approachable. Long-tailed Duck (female) some 40-50m from the bank (occasionally pecked by a Coot). I could finally use my telescope to good advantage, having 'lugged' it around the Reservoir. 3 brilliant birds plus incl. : Goldeneye - 15+ Cormorant - 35+ Little Grebe Great-crested Grebe. I look forward to seeing any of your photos on the web, Russell and Roy.
I returned to BBH via Bardney ("The Nag's Head") and Nocton Fen (3.00 - 4.15pm) : C. Buzzard - sat on a field Barn Owl - 1 Fieldfare - 40+ Mute Swan - c50 on a field Grey Heron Pheasant RL Partridge.
Regards,
Freddy
