doing a routine survey at Alkborough this afternoon I was amazed to come across a White-rumped Sandpiper with a small flock of Dunlin feeding amongst the ice and snow; this appears to be the latest ever for Lincolnshire pipping the 1955 record at Wisbech SF November 13th - 17th; one of the Green-winged Teal also still there today

The White-rumped Sandpiper put in a brief appearance again at Alkborough Flats on the morning of Sunday Nov. 30th. Unfortunately, this event was witnessed by just two people, one of whom was on a chance visit from Notts.
Today the Flats were totally covered in ice and the only small waders seen were half-a dozen Dunlin.
The rare visitor may well still be in the area so anyone with the time, and a great deal of patience, might like to try their luck.
After four unsuccessful visits to see this bird I am, temporarily, admitting defeat!

the WRS was relocated on Trent Falls late afternoon Sunday 30th but at a distance with 60x on a scope being needed and the bird was visible for about 4 seconds every 10 minutes when it walked over one of the mud ridges while feeding in the channels; with falling tides it may not get back onto the flats for 10 days -- as some people discovered today it is not a wise move to try and drive down the hill at Alkborough in frost and snow as you may not get back up!!!
