Hour and a half walking round the lagoon from about 2.15 (p.m.!) was rewarded with:
Oystercatcher - 2
Turnstone - 2
Black tailed Godwit - approx 25
Canada geese
Brent geese - not many on the lagoon
Greylag
Redshank - around a dozen
Shelduck - 1
Wigeon
Mallard
Snipe - 2
Greenfinch
Blue tit
Great tit
Wren
Robin
Tree sparrows - about half a dozen near the car park
House sparrow
Goldfinch
Dunlin - 6
Lapwing
Mute swan - 2
Grey plover - 1
Barn owl
Blackbird
Fieldfare
Magpie - 1
Chaffinch
Pied wagtail - 2
Coot - 1
Little grebe - 5
Curlew - 2
Little egret - 2
Bright sunny day - a real treat. The godwits were great - feeding and squabbling right next to the fence of the car park and quite oblivious to the cars.

Hi Mark,

I've not seen any colour-ringed birds in the flock that has recently taken up residence in front of the car park yet myself, but they've not been there for long and there are plenty more on the central area which require a scope and a bit of patience to check - neither of which I've had recently. There are several local birders who do routinely report colour-ringed birds from Freiston, plus we have one of Jenny Gill's posters in the hide prompting visitors to look for and report any, so hopefully details will find their way to you.

In the autumn there was a flock up up to 6,000 birds at Freiston, many had rings but whenever I saw them they were too distant to obtain any combinations. Several thousand of these birds roosted on our reservoir, but viewing without disturbing them was difficult. From next year we will have a viewpoint overlooking the reservoir which will hopefully enable even more colour-ringed birds to be recorded and reported.

Best wishes,

John
