Today returned to doing the WeBS after an absense of nearly three years! Found out no one had been doing it while I was absent. Not the best of days with mist, icy conditions and very cold, thankfully I had plenty of thermals on
Arrived at 08:45.
Main highlight was seven
Goosander [three male & four female] as I was about to take a record shot they flew off the reserve and I didn't see them again, on this occasion I happened to be Johnny-on-the-spot

Later had a female
Goldeneye plus a
Kingfisher.
In total had twenty species of waterbirds which considering the conditions was good, about 25% of the pits were frozen over.
Of the other non-water bird species I had my first Bullfinch of the year, consisting of two pair, plus three pair of Siskin and five Redwing, in total had twelve species. With a grand total of both species of 32, which again isn't too bad.
Left at 13:00 and glad to be back doing the WeBS, roll on warmer weather!
Kind regards
John [Max]
PS: saw three birders who I know and while in the hide because of a lack of birds I listened to the latest news about world affairs
