This morning 09.00 Coningsby road toward New York a Barn Owl coming toward me crossed the road to the West side and sat on the metal frame 6ft up an HT pole I slowed down as I passed to take in the view only to see the other side of the frame was taken by another Barn owl. Both looking in good condition. This afternoon around 2pm along Leagate road I noticed the body of a Hare had now been slashed open I don't think these wounds could have been inflicted by the crows nearby. Turning Left into Hundle Houses sitting on top of the first pole on the Right was a Peregrine looking quite magnificent against the sky a couple of poles along was a male Sparrowhawk and further along on the opposite side of the road on a pole was a large Kestrel. At the Western end of the road I turned Right into Coningsby road and as I crossed the Dyke on the Right was a Buzzard on the ground tearing away at a body (I couldn't indentify)quite happy when I stopped for a few minutes to watch. These raptors must under a lot of pressure at the moment.
Just opposite where the Peregrine was on the 3/12/2010 in the pm. was a large Green Woodpecker in the verge right at the side of the road.
Just local observations. There is plenty of rabbit and hare activity along with mice along with good flocks of small bird so there should be food about.
