Yesterday I went to one of my regular ringing sites by the ponds at Walesby Moor. I hadn't seen any about for a while so I was surprised to find two first year Crossbills in one of the nets (m and f). They are the first I have caught since April 1992! I also caught a further 30 birds including 6 Siskins and 2 Lesser Redpolls as well as a Jay. At the moment there isn't much water about so they were obviously drinking there.
