Neil Drinkall found a Lesser Yellowlegs at Alkborough Flats first thing this morning.
It didn't linger long and then flew off in the direction of Blacktoft Sands.
Linda and I went to Alkborough on the off-chance that the bird might return but on arrival there was no sign of it, however, the Long-billed Dowitcher showed for a little while from the main hide before doing its usual disappearing act.
Fortunately, the Lesser Yellowlegs appeared again late morning before flying out of view into an inaccessible area.
It seems likely that the Yellowlegs could be the same individual that spent much of last winter in the
general vicinity.

After sitting in the hide for about an hour and half with Roy Harvey this morning hoping for a glimpse of the yellowlegs or dowitcher with no success, Roy said that he was going to have a walk and to look in the pools behind the hide. I decided to join him. We left the hide and Roy scanned the pool behind. "Four waders", he said. Scopes raised - 3 ruff and a curlew sandpiper. A quick scan over the rest of the flooded field - nothing but then Roy said "I've got it, the yellowlegs". There it was with the ruff and and curlew sand. Immediately we settled down to watch it and of course up they all went - flying over our heads on to the main lake and alighting behind the reeds towards the car-park. We found the curlew sandpiper all right but no lesser yellowlegs. 15 minutes of fruitless searching before Roy found the yellowlegs in its original position. It performed well for an hour, even coming on to the small pool nearest the hide. It eventually flew back towards the main lake but circled round 360 degrees and disappeared from view to the south.

A short video by Graham Catley of the 2cy Lesser Yellowlegs at Alkborough Flats, North Lincolnshire, England on October 30th 2012; note as the bird turns away it utters a brief burst of song?
