around the west side of the Humber bridge there have been 2500+ Fieldfares in the last few days but only about 5% - 10% of this number of Redwings -- oddly at Alkborough yesterday on the scarp slope there were 1000+ Redwings but the Fieldfares were concentrated on the lower bushes on the Flats where there were about 400 birds -just to the east on the thorn hedge between Whitton and Winteringham Haven 1200+ Fieldfares-- all birds feeding on hawthorn berries but with extensive drinking and bathing in the wet arable fields adjacent -- very few Blackbirds and only 1 Song Thrush seen yesterday --

Hundreds - thousands? more Fieldfares accross the river too with lots of redwings, quite a few blackbirds but only the odd song thrush too. Probably the biggest number of FF's and RW's down feeding I've seen in the area.

Walked from Caistor to Market Rasen via the Viking Way this morning. Every hawthorn bush and hedge seemed to hold feeding thrushes in the Nettleton/Normanby le Wold/Walesby area I would estimate c400 Fieldfares, c800 Redwings and c350 Blackbirds as well as two Mistle Thrushes. In addition 2 Mute Swans on a small pond at Nettleton and four Snipe flushed nearby.

Makes me wonder what track they take to get here because Spurn's numbers are pretty small.

I did my 5th BTO winter thrush survey at Keddington w of Louth on Thursday and had 5 redwings. Yesterday I drove to Bradford along the M180, M18 and M62 and couldn't believe the volume of fieldfares and redwings feeding on the roadside hawthorns. Particularly noticeable on the west side of the Trent and as west as where the east coast mainline crosses the M62.

They are yet to reach North notts. in any numbers.

In Bawtry (just over the border) on Wednesday there were 200-300 Fieldfare and 50 or so Redwing in the roadside Hawthorn.

Around 1500 fieldfare in the Nocton Fen area. The area either side of the river by the Bardney Pits was especially productive

Thanks for that Ian, well spotted.
I do regularly check out the Bawtry, Austerfield, Misterton area on my travels to Nth. Lincs. but obviously not well enough. #-o
