Thanks for the lead, Chris, and for your pm, Dean.
It's great having some LOCAL birds for a change, Tentercroft Street being only a 10 minute drive away. I was there from 11.45 - 12.30 and the Waxwings were around the whole time.

Between feeding bouts, the Waxwings were perching in the tall trees at the end of Tentercroft Street and flying to the tree to the left of the 2 Rowans before starting to feed. I counted 27.

There were literally dozens of Starlings around the area in quite sizeable flocks. Occasionally they were perching alongside the Waxwings and also feeding with them. Fortunately, the Waxwings stayed in one discrete flock in flight, both arriving at the Rowans and in departing.

I arrived at the Tentercroft Street stakeout soon after 11.00 this morning (Sun) to find just one birder digiscoping the (now) c.40 Waxwings in and around the 2 Rowans. After about 15 minutes or so they took off and headed towards the Railway Station but a later check there only turned up Starlings on the Rowans.....the Waxwings were probably back in Tentercroft Street again.

40 were present from 11.45 - 12.05. Fascinating to see them also swoop down to drink from surrounding puddles. Very flighty flock though. Going from trees and TV aerials on opposite side of road to the Rowan tree.

As an aside what a shame if this tree is destroyed if/when they put the new connecting road through from the High Street to Pelham Bridge.

A passing visit at 10.15 this morning revealed c 30 Waxwings in the tree adjacent to the Kindergarten. Occasionally visiting the rowans but invariably chased off by a very territorial Mistle Thrush.

I popped into Lincoln today (Mon) to go to B & Q. On my way home I diverted to Tentercroft Street (1.45 - 2.20pm). There were 3 or 4 birders watching the Waxwings, which we estimated at c.60. Unusually for the site, the birds were grouped in a wide arc around the 2 Rowan Trees......some distant (almost as far as Siemens), others nearer, with the main groups being close to the berries.

I visited Tentercroft Car Park at 2.45 so was half hour behind Freddy. There were 21 Waxwings on the high tree at the back of the Parking area at that time. By the time I left 19 had flown off toward the Common leaving 2 at the very top.

Just out of interest, I had a meeting today with the designer for the new East-West Link Road proposed for Lincoln which will result in the removal of the two Kashmir or White-fruited Rowan trees that have been an attraction for the Waxwings (and us) over several years. Not only will new trees of the same species will be planted nearby as part of the scheme, but if it is possible to move these two mature trees (subject to existing underground services) they may be replanted nearby also. Good news !

That is good news Alan, especially if they can move the existing trees and plant more. It would be so sad to lose these trees and the beauty they bring every few years.
