A quick visit to Swanholme Lakes this morning produced:

Goosander - 18 (11m + 7 fem/imm)
Red-crested Pochard - Rusty and his hybrid mate
Redpoll - 22 feeding in birches
Siskin - 1 with the above
Long-tailed Tit - 8

In addition a flock of Siskins was heard to fly over whilst walking back through Hartsholme Park.

Redpolls have returned to the garden Nyjer feeders over this last week with 4 birds regular (about 3 weeks earlier than previous years) so hopefully we are in for another good Redpoll winter and numbers will increase to that of the 2010/11 winter (with a few Mealies again thrown in for good measure)

Another visit this morning (16/12/12) produced 20 Goosander (6m + 14fem/imm) plus a female Goldeneye (quite a rarity for this site).

There is much movement of Goosander between local water bodies but with 11 males present yesterday that is a minimum of at least 25 birds in the area assuming that most present today were the same as yesterday.

Also now 7 Redpolls on the Nyjer feeders in the garden.
