Readers of this thread may be amused to read the email I received from a friend, Robert Walker, in Horncastle. He had read my post and was moved to write:

On the 2/12/12, near Woodhall Country Park my wife and I, were able to see
11 stunning Waxwings preening on oak tree branches in full sunshine, we stood below the tree for
quite some minutes and they were not bothered about our presence.
I admit it is our first sighting !
Later in the day, we saw another pair in Hawthorn bushes along Green Lane, admittedly,
these may have been birds from the earlier group, given the proximity of locations.

I am (of course) very happy for them and note his choice of adjective.

Yesterday I spent 3 hours searching for birds and found 1 Jay.
