At least 30 waxwings sitting in tree near main car park at Burton Waters west of Lincoln(opposite shopping area).
Seen briefly from A57.

I hadn't been home long today from the Newton-on-Trent/Dunham Bridge crossroads stakeout with its 11 Waxwings, when I logged on and saw Brian's post. As the Burton Waters development is only a 15 minute drive from BBH, it was too good an opportunity to miss.

I arrived in the main carpark of Burton Waters at 2.30pm, having just passed a tree simply laden with Waxwings. Once parked, I counted just over 100. They soon began flying down to feed on low, shrubby Cotoneaster berries around the flower beds near the water. At one stage there were five or six groups either feeding or perching in the saplings near me . Brilliant! Some of the birds were drinking from puddles, others were on the muddy bank of the 'Water' itself and drinking their fill.

By 2.55, they were all back in the same tree. 5 minutes later, they began to take off in groups heading for the far side of the development. By 3.05, they had all disappeared.

Thanks, Brian, for a super lead.

Freddy

At least 30 still at 10-30 this morning, but none obvious when I called in at 12-30. Plenty of berries still, but scattered round the area and most on low growing cotoneaster.
Cheers. Rick

Called in twice today and saw none despite there being lots of berries.
Cheers. Rick
