Didn't see the Lesser Spotted Hayes on our long walk around the reserve today. (muscles aching) Didn't see the Short-toed Lark either - all we saw at the yellow fish box was a couple of cabbage whites Did have some good birds though Andrew Vaughan and myself had brilliant views of the Tawny Owl (just two days after hearing my first of the year outside my bedroom window). It was also calling regularly. You should have stay another two minutes Derek! Waders included black-tailed godwit 100+ avocet 28 greenshank 11 spotted redshank 7 curlew sandpiper 7 lapwing 50 snipe 4 green sandpiper 2 dunlin 40 ringed plover 80 sanderling 12 whimbrel 1
we also saw whinchat 6 in the bushes on the storm ridge just before the Wash viewpoint gannet 4 arctic skua 3 sandwich tern c160 common tern 2 garganey (thanks to Nigel Lound) kestrel 5 wigeon 1 little egret 22 great spotted woodpecker swallow c200 house martin c100 long tailed tit 18
