No luck with the Lesser Yellowlegs or the Wood Sandpiper. Both believed to have flown after being spooked by a Barn Owl this lunchtime.
So, Double Fail.
and again, I say
HOWEVER, Year Target of 120 species met thanks to the rather glorious sight of a Hobby over the wader scrapes circa 14:45. List then went into 'Extra Time' after seeing 2 Spotted Redshanks on the scrape nearest to the bank. So, WOOHOO to meeting the target!
A mammalian behavioural Lifer came my way shortly afterwards as I saw, for the first time, a pair of Brown Hares boxing on the grassland near to the bank. Bit late for this? Was impressive regardless of date - they were so close, my hearing aids picked up every blow to their bodies!
The Glossy Ibis remains at the reserve and is still a very chilled-out bird!
Outside that, plenty of activity along the hedgerow. Blackcaps, Reed Buntings, Reed warblers, Chiffchaffs, Whitethroats etc... usual waders and gulls on the scrapes, with good numbers of Godwits.
