Only 8 Sandwich Terns were seen. Also on the shore were 3,500 Knot, 620 Oystercatchers, 15 Curlews and 2 Whimbrels, while an Arctic Skua was harrying terns over the sea.

Not being blown to bits or drenched by the rain made a huge difference to the watching and counting conditions, Colin. The flies were bad, though.

Yes, they are mosquitoes and there were even more of them tonight on the same walk. Met up with Kev Sparkes and highlights on the realignment section were 72 Redshanks, 15 Greenshanks, 3 Common Sandpipers, Black-tailed Godwit, 11 Avocets, 5 Ruffs, 7 Common Snipe, 270 Teal, Garganey, 40 Shelducks, 12 Little Egrets, 11 Cormorants, 4 Mediterranean Gulls, Common Buzzard and Kingfisher. Terns were already passing when we began watching the sea so only an incomplete count of ca. 800 Common Terns recorded.
