A visit and walk around whole site on a crisp sunny day with Ed and Monica Mackrill and Peter Childs.

Sightings included,
water pipit with meadow pipit feeding close to car park, interesting to see the larger size of the water pipit,
also 2 rock pipits seen very well on grassland, lots of the usual waders and wildfowl on the non frozen areas,
a glossy ibis seen flying along the sea bank to Freiston then an hour late flying back and settling near the reservoir
was a surprise, 2 dark coloured grey geese flying over and well inland with a call neither Ed or I recognised,
although we identified them from plumage details as Bean goose, we later listened to a full range of bean geese calls online and these were clearly almost identical to Tundras.
A total of 4 marsh harriers over saltmarsh and 1 barn owl and 1 peregrine sat on a grass field fence post.
Yet another great and interesting day at Frampton.

I'm not for a minute suggesting the birds you had flying over weren't tundras, but given two taigas have been reported here a couple of times it would be rather unexpected to have two tundra and two taiga bean geese here at the same time.

Yes we thought the birds were likely to be taigas as previously reported, but listening to all the races calls online they sounded just like tundras, a very clear difference, I assume the taigas were clearly seen , as 2 of the 3 tundras that were at Saltfleetby for some weeks showed taiga like features mainly the bill colours, the 5 of us watching them did a joint online search of bean goose races ,interesting all the same, and look forward to any future sightings, the birds circled widely between Boston water tower and Frampton before descending near the tower, (at least we can say 2 bean geese as we only saw them in flight and going away from us , it was the call that alerted us.).

The tower is quite close to where I live, so I'll probably go there on Friday to see if they're still there.
