One calling as it circled St James' spire 07.45 today, dislodging a roosting peregrine. They sparred for a couple of minutes before the raven got bored and flew north, still calling. The peregrine went back to bed on the north side of the spire.

Cheers

Geoff

They bred on St James Church in 1693

Following up on Geoff's report I had a look at c6pm last night and there were 2 Peregrines roosting on Louth church, one on and one at the base of the north east pinnacle.

This morning I watched the spire from my bedroom window from 07.00. I could see the higher Peregrine still in the same spot but the lower position was obscured by trees. The higher bird flew off at 7.15, returned at 7.20 then flew off again at 07.40. At 07.45 a pair of Ravens flew in from the east over the town at about walkway height on the spire. They flew past the spire on the south side and headed off in a north westerly direction.

BTO bird facts indicate that the average clutch laying date is 5 March with a range from 20 Feb to 6 April, so it is possible this may be an inexperienced pair looking for somewhere to settle down. Lets hope they do so locally in the next few days!

This is a Louth tick for me so its a good start to the day.
