I prefer walking to cycling, but this morning I dusted off the mountain bike and set off for the Wolds above
where I live. Having previously found several groups of Dotterel here, it is always worth checking, although numbers located have been fewer in recent years.
The reason for using the bike was to cover as much ground as possible and despite checking all potential areas, no Dotterel were seen, but there is still time for them. It was notable that there were no pea fields - Dotterel usually prefer them.
I found a group of 4 Wheatear in a cereal field at Bigby Top and 1 at Searby Top.
The general area is good for Corn Buntings - there being a total of 7 singing males when I checked the other day, although I only saw 3 today. Other birds of note were 2 Yellow Wagtails, several Yellowhammers - not counted, and a singing male Whitethroat.

Friends heard a Cuckoo near Howsham yesterday.
