This is so important that I have decide to break the normal rules about posting. I would urge all members to take part in this Consultation which runs until 24.7.15. You can take part by going to the European Commission website and completing a short questionairre. Why is this important? The Commission are deciding whether to weaken or strengthen these Directives. Commercial pressure is being brought for the former. Only Public clamour can preserve or enhance the current Directives. These Directives cover not just Habitat Protection but there also specific ones for protecting Bird populations! Please do take part, even if you have doubts about the EU. This is certainly one area where the EU can help our wildlife, which is more than can be said of the current UK Government!

An easy way in - and one which will also give you some background - is through the RSPB website at
http://www.rspb.org.uk/joinandhelp/camp ... endnature/

You can also read more on Martin Harper's blog, for example at
http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/ourwor ... -blog.aspx
