Quick visit 0645 -0715 this morning.
Highlights;-
1 Turtle Dove
1 Common Tern
4 Willow Warblers - at least
2+ Chiffchaffs
3+ Blackcaps - all juveniles
5 Swallows
10 House Martins
2 juv Buzzards
2 Bullfinches
2 Jays

Also 1 brown hare and lots of rabbits!

The Turtle Dove at Dunsby STW appears to be a juvenile which is good news as it implies successful breeding in the area, but I can't help thinking that for a pair of Turtle Doves migrating to Africa and back just to raise a single offspring is not a viable way of maintaining a healthy population. Contrast that with the Wood Pigeons that go nowhere but breed all Summer long.

No sign of Turtle Doves this morning but at least a dozen ChiffWillows. Of those I looked at closely most appeared to be Chiffchaffs but there was at least one Willow Warbler that was quiet and another singing in the nursery. I will let the ringers sort out the ratio and ages!
Also 2 Blackcaps and at least 2 Whitethroats, I Swallow, 10+ Robins, 1 Green Woodpecker, 5 LT Tits and 2 Bullfinches.

Lots of midges and a ripe stink this morning!

2 newly fledged Turtle Doves sitting together in the young trees at Aveland Trees, Dunsby today. I'm assuming that these are second broods so that would be 4 young fledged from the local pair this year. Not such a bad breeding strategy after all!
