This message today from Eddie Paul. Old news but may still be in the area. The link below shows the location on his phone
John

Dear John Clarkson,

Kirsi Peck, (RSPB) suggested I contact you re sighting Great White Egret. Sighted 24th September 2015 at about 15:00 hours. I hope the attached screenshot in enough for precise location. (Sorry, best I can do, this digital stuff is a nightmare for an old goat like me.)

Sighting 100% deffo. Distance about 30 yards. Bird standing for a few moments before I spooked it. (Bugger) Huge bird, slim body sloping up into long, long neck , no crest of head-feathers. It had a pure white oriental elegance. Truely beautiful. Much, MUCH bigger than Little Egret, (seen lots 'n' lots of them elsewhere) slimmer, smother. It was a Heron, absolutely no doubt, but pure white. Dark legs.
Spooked, it took flight. Typical Heron flight, arched slow deep wing beats, an almost laborious, lumbering flight against a fair breeze which made its progress slow and erratic enabling me to observe it for some minutes. Long legs beyond tail. Could go on, but won't. (!) If it wasn't a Great White Egret then it was a pure white Heron. End of. Deffo.
John, I don't 'twitch', collect birds, have lists etc. I just happen to have seen a Great White Egret (I mean wow!) so I pinged the RSPB and they said tell you. So, you've been told. Job done.

Sincerely yours,

Eddie.
