Reported: A bird reported as the juvenile (AWOL) Pallid Harrier has be seen this morning at Gib Point. It flew south along the west side of the reserve late morning.

This suggests it has been present north of Gib Point for the last few days at least - makes you wonder where?

This bird was found and photographed by Stuart Ainsworth. Departing well to the south shortly afterwards, but as before, it returned early afternoon and hunted the Old Saltmarsh for bout 30 mins before disappearing over the East Dunes.

The visibility has been so bad here for the last four days that it could have been here and overlooked.

Pallid Harrier just seen well over salt marsh from Wash viewpoint. The bird showed for about 20 minutes, distantly to the south at first, then came north in front of viewpoint and finally back south very close.

Reported (again): Pallid Harrier, Gibraltar Point, the juvenile bird seen from Lill's Hut at 1315hrs on Friday 6th Nov....

Suggest the could be a few people at Gib Point tomorrow afternoon....

The Pallid Harrier reappeared approx 3.45pm, put up by a Short Eared Owl, gave reasonable views initially and then drifted south, always distant, viewable on and off for about 20 mins.
Also Peregrine, Merlin, Common Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, male Hen Harrier and Kestrel.

The harrier came in from the north at about 1015am and, after hunting briefly over the saltmarsh south of the shorebird warden's hut, it headed south towards Wainfleet. It then returned a few minutes later and, crossing storm ridge, it headed over the Old Saltmarsh.

I left to cover other areas after this.

Arrived at Gib just before sunrise and the first two hours were definitely the best weather wise.
Picked up the Pallid Harrier at 7.20am coming from the North moving along the salt marsh and then perched for about 5mins at about 250m, good views in the early morning sun.
It then went a bit further south then doubled back and went out of sight going back towards Mill Hill.
I stayed till about 2pm, 8 hours in that wind was enough for me, but i don't think it was seen again up until then?
Also a male and female Hen Harrier and what could have been a juvenile Hen Harrier but it was at extreme distance.
5 sightings of Merlin, a Common Buzzard, a pair of Stonechat and 8 Whoopers over.

I was working north of Skegness today, so popped in to Gib Point at approx. 1330hrs and left at 1630hrs.

Spent the whole time at Lill's Huts and saw the following in very windy weather...

Hen Harrier a cracking male flew south at 1340hrs and two ring-tail birds (both very distant) appeared together at 1610hrs, before both went to roost. I've not yet seen the pallid harrier, but the light was dreadful and the birds were a longway off, so even if one had been the pallid, i'm not sure it would have been that easy to tell at that distance...

Andy,

There were two ringtails yesterday a female and juv male along with the adult male you mentioned.We contemplated the same thing yesterday until the Pallid appeared.

Now you will know the questions that ran through my mind subsequently after I observed what perhaps was the first female hen harrier (as far I know) last Tuesday. Didn't really look that closely as it was brief, distant and very gloomy. Doesn't really matter anymore as I had cracking views on Saturday
