First chance to get out on the patch for a week or two. Fen Lane to Nocton Wood and back. At least 12 Bramblings still around the junction of Prior Lane with a few Chaffinches and Greenfinches. Also in the general area single Buzzard and Green Woodpecker plus 36 Fieldfare and 56 Redwing

Dunston/Dunston Fen - Sun 10 Jan.......late morning/early afternoon.

Mixed group of c.30 Fieldfare and Redwing in sheep field/horse paddock just outside Dunston.

The large mixed Finch flock (Brambling, Chaffinch and Greenfinch) was very flighty with disturbance from passing walkers and vehicles. Best views, especially of male Bramblings perched in the sunshine, were obtained from close viewing from the car (aka hide) of the birds in the trees and bushes to the left of Dunston Fen Lane just past Priory Lane. Also Goldfinch feeding on roadside thistles.

A pair of Stonchat were in a roadside field at the far end of The Fen towards the river.

Pleased to meet up with Colin and Sheila in the area.

Freddy
