Had an afternoon walk on the Wolds each day over the weekend and found it extremely quiet on the bird front. Not a single Skylark was heard or seen, with the fields, in general, free of birds.
This afternoon there was a flock of about 150 finches at Barnetby Top feeding in game cover, a couple were Brambling with the rest a mixture of Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Linnet and Goldfinch. A little later I counted 14 Fieldfares in a hedge beside a field of oilseed rape.
I saw no Buntings of any description either day - in an area where you can usually guarantee to find Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting and Yellowhammer.
Let us hope for a considerable improvement next time!

Roy
