GWE still present on the second pit to the left of the landfill site access road. No sign at all as we walked up around 3pm, having blanked on the other pits where it had been seen on other days. On the walk back to the car, at about 3.20pm it flew in, low down, and settled at the far end in front of the reeds. It was still showing as we left at 3.40.

A nice start to the New Year having dipped out on it last time.

Called at Manby flashes at 9 am no sign of GW Egret but 2 Gooseanders there. Stopped on back lane at Carlton and found the GW Egret on the bank of Long Eau at 9.30. It flew west towards Manby Flashes. With JRC who took photos.

Great White showing clearly at 10am this morning at Kirkby, on the pond by the Refuse Tip.
On the other side of the road amongst the Greylag were 2 Egyptian Geese.

Also 2 x Red Kites on thursday over Riverslea Pit and waste tip.

Over the last few days I have been asked on site by a few birders from within and out of county for local knowledge of the location of this bird. So with numerous open source observations, I have put a map together on my blog with perhaps helpful knowledge of its locations.

Every little (observation) helps........

The bird was present at 14:45 (Saturday) on the pit opposite the Local Authority Refuse Amenity (marked on John's map with a yellow marker). Not the easiest place to see the bird with the traffic going to the dump and the vegetation around the pool. This was my fifth attempt to see this bird

Trying for the first time tomorrow afternoon - can those with my text number keep me in touch if it moves anywhere?

Also - are there currently any Redpolls around Kirkby Pits?

Just been looking at your map John. That's a nice piece of work and must have taken a while to put together.
Let's hope the bird stays around for a while longer and a few visitors will be able to benefit from your efforts
(I am sure that some who look at these pages will be very grateful for all the info you have collected).

I have been asked a number of times by strangers to the site where they can see the GWE and find it difficult to answer.
I am only able to say where I personally have seen the bird (and that only accounts for three of the locations on your
map although I have had quite a number of sightings) and of course there are many places where it might be and so
it is impossible to guarantee that a visitor will see the bird. However your map gives strangers to the site a chance
to explore most of the possibilities and hopefully go away with a nice "tick" in their records.

Nice to see someone spending so much time making their "local knowledge" available to others.

Thanks Trevor for those kind words, just thought it would be helpful and I will keep it updated whilst it stays around. I have now reorganised the colour of the markers to group the sightings with a colour per pit.

Was on SW pit at 1245pm and was still there when I left at 1345pm.

Russ T had it on SW pits again today 12 Jan 12.

I have now also updated the Egret's observation map now with all sightings from the book at Kirkby GP hide (which noted in has also been seen 9 & 10 Jan 12 on SW pits).

On south west pits at 14:00 hours to-day completing eight weeks since first seen on 30th November. (Is this a long staying record for the species in Lincolnshire?).

GW Egret present and showing well on the second pit on the left approaching from Coningsby (the one with the large spoil heap at the back of it) . Park in the old entrance on the first right hand bend. Present from 10.15 - 11.00 at least. Presume this pit is what is labelled as "South west" ?
