Post subject:  15 minutes in the garden

on occasions I spend 10-15 mins in the garden first thing in a morning just listening and watching for what flies over -- its usually pretty mundane but odd out of place birds do appear; this morning amongst the list of 21 species was a single Swift, the last remnant, a Dunlin accompanying a flock of 70 Golden Plovers and a Green Sandpiper that flew over calling twice; I managed to miss this species in Barton last year in spite of some determined searching which just goes to show how unpredictable birding is and why it maintains our interest.
Two Ruff Barton this am and a second Swift so most of the apus do seem to have departed at their usual time.
