I was at home by then,there is only so much time you can stay out after a night shift and i was pretty knacked by 2.30 when i got home!

6 Hours on the patch today produced the following sightings: 4 Green Sandpiper 17 Common Buzzard 5 Marsh Harrier(adult male,adult female and 3 juv's) 175 Goldfinch 2 Swift 8 Kestrel 3 juv. Hobby 1 Kingfisher 1 Little Egret 69 Linnet 1 Reed Warbler 3 juv. Whinchat Regards Steve. |

Right i know i made a pointer to jt goy,had a little go,is keb wood in yorkshire etc ,but if jt goy is claiming Honey Buzzard,im sorry for being clever,but it worrys me slightly,if you are refferring to dave johnson,who is good on raptors or was with me cos i took a scope with us and dave always left his at home,but more poignant,he now leaves his bins at home when he goes out,so any claim of Honey Buzzard is therefore questionable............ Roger.

Roger. Rog, I did promise the admin team I wouldn't get involved in any shenanigans involving you BUT after reading what you have just said I cannot resist. It does sound as if you are doubting my word and that bothers me! And please use capitals for my initials. I wouldn't want you worrying on my behalf, so put this to bed and get some shuteye  The bird was close enough for Dave not to be mistaken, he immediately said that is no ordinary Buzzard and noticed it's wing shape and how it was flying etc. I have a new scope and was using it for only the second time on Saturday in the 'field' so had great difficulty picking up on it, even though the Honey was fairly low. Dave Johnson is still as good with raptors as he was, I'll pass on your comments insinuating he is past it! Dave uses my trusty bins which may be 44 years old but still going strong, and also my new scope with a zooooooooom lens. He is more into photography these days but still keeps his hand in spotting the birds. Regards John |

It would be interesting to know whether this was a claimed adult or juvenile and what colour phase; raptor ID is never easy in spite of what many birders think and the variations in autumnal juveniles and 2cy birds plus post juvenile dispersal brings a lot of birds into the field that can pose distinct ID problems for the less wary http://pewit.blogspot.com/2009/09/possi ... zzard.html |
