Highlights from this afternoon's 3hr 15min visit:

Kestrel - 2 displaying
Marsh Harrier - 1 hunting fields just behind reserve

Whooper Swan - 10 heading (unbelievably) SOUTH along Welland circa 17:00
Usual duck species - Mallard, Wigeon, Shelduck, Pintail, Shoveler, Teal, Tufted, Pochard
Great Crested Grebe - 5 pairs

Little Ringed Plover - 5
Ringed Plover - 3
Avocet - about 30
Lapwing everywhere

Twite - flock of 50 or so with 5 Linnet mixed in
White Wagtail - 4
Pied Wagtail - 2
Chaffinch - pair displaying and calling
Reed Bunting - everywhere
Tree Sparrow - plenty on feeders

STILL no Swallows seen, or indeed ANY summer migrants! This is the worst luck I've ever had with them! Forcefield still in operation, seemingly...

No summer migrants yet Katherine but it is only a couple of weeks since you were saying the same about twite. Patience - any day now

I meant in a hirundine way... soz... I remember my first swallow-related gasp of the year at Titchwell Marsh last year was March 30th...
