Post subject:  10 Aug 10 - Little Tern inland

Tonight whilst out on my bike I stopped nearly halfway up the River Witham between Kirkstead Bridge and Tattershall Bridge to admire a Harbour Seal amongst the pea soup of the river. (Grid Ref: TF190587).

I heard a contact call that initially I could'nt pin down then saw a tern coming up the river thinking it was a juv comic. As it approached I still thought the call was wierd then as it passed I identified as a ad Little Tern! Not seen one inland before! It kept calling all the way till it was out of sight heading West along the river so may turn up further inland (Bardney or further?)

Also observed 4 Great Crested Grebe and 1 Juv
3 Little Grebes
2 Pheasant and yg
Mallard and plenty of Mallard hybrids.
1 Grey Heron

Cheers
