Yesterday afternoon I was alerted by a tractor driver rolling a field in Dunsby Fen to a strange looking bird. I hopped on board and saw a Stone Curlew walking in front of the tractor. Refound it later with Nick Williams who got a reasonable photo despite the rain and darkness. No sign of it today despite diligent scanning but 200 Lapwings, 1 Golden Plover and a Peregrine over the same field.

Had a good search for the Stone Curlew this afternoon with Ian Misselbrook. No sign of it, but did see on the rape and wheat stubbles:

1 Greenshank - my first in Dunsby fen on the ground
4 Snipe
2 Whinchat
1 Yellow Wagtail
100 Lapwing
300 Starling
Plus Linnets, Meadow Pipits, Yellowhammers. Tree Sparrows, Reed Bunting

Further down the fen a Peregrine put up 150 Teal and 50 Mallard from a duck pond.
Photo of Stone Curlew taken by Nick Williams going on the website.
