Similar species at Spurn today Kev!,looks like there has been a bit of a movement of Barnacle Geese along the East Coast today,we had 3 and 4 moving south.

Regards

Steve.

Fairly good for seabirds again this morning 26/09 with the best count of sooty shearwaters for the year

sooty 18 N
manx shearwater 2 N
long tailed skua juv N
Pom skus juv N
arctic skua 5N
Bonxie 8 N
skua sp - several distant
Kittiwake 30 N
common tern 6 N
arctic tern juv N
sanwich tern 2
red-throated diver 5 N
gannet 300 N
fulmar 3 N

Unfortunately, I had to leave at 0915, just as things were getting interetsing eg more skuas and at identifiable range. The other two birders on site left an hour earlier after lots of beeping sounds and mutterings about an Empid or something !!!!!

Cheers

Kev

I did tell several people that the best places to seawatch from today would be Gib Point and perhaps Frieston!! - it's usually the case after a good northerly
It's still a mystery to me why some seabirds head directly across to Norfolk and along the Norfolk coast eastwards whilst others go into the Wash and do a circuit to return heading north past Gib. On Friday Spurn had 51 Sooties South, I had 6 South past Chapel but Nige had 2 North at Gib. This morning only 1 went N past Chapel whilst Kev had 18N at Gib. Not to mention all the Skuas that are long gone S and which have not passed Gib. Was anybody watching at Frieston today?
Moral - if you miss the first morning of a good northerly at Mablethorpe or Chapel Pt then try Gib on following days!

Did a couple of hours at Freiston this morning before going for a jog down Blakeney point, a red-throated diver and a slav bobbing about together on the sea, lots of gannets but that was about it.
