A Birdguides report today (Mon) :

"10+ Waxwings on berries at eastern end of Tentercroft Street, Lincoln but mobile. (12.00 noon)" ( Re Nov 2008 ).

I visited the site this afternoon at 1.30pm and eventually located 18 Waxwings which had arrived in a tree behind the Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers at the very far end of Tentercroft Street (2.10 - 2.20pm ).The birds took off and circled the area ( but didn't land on the (Nov 2008) two berry-laden Rowan trees by the Regency Club ) and flew towards Pelham Bridge. It was too cold for me to hang around any longer.
Hopefully they will stay around for a few days as per Nov 2008, especially as the two Rowans have masses of berries.

Regards,

Freddy

Had a look this morning for any waxwings on Tentercroft Street - 10:50 am. No sign...same for Kesteven Street, Cross Street and Monson Street where collectively there are still lots of berry-laden trees.

2 x Dunnock looking very bright and attractive against the snowy background.
6 x Chaffinch, mainly females, feeding on the berries.

Cheers everybody,

Matthew.

26 Waxwings present 11:30 to just after 12 noon when I left (it started snowing again). I first spotted them in the tall trees beside the walkway through to Kesteven Street, they then moved to their favoured bushes (with the pink berries), on the left hand side after the car park entrance, in front of the club.

Best wishes
Derek

16 Waxwings there today (02/12) between 12.30 and 1.00 pm. Quite flighty - either feeding on the berries or resting in the Plane (?) Tree opposite.

Cheers,
Matthew.

I paid another visit to Tentercroft Street today (Sunday)... 12.45 -1.15pm.
Some 25-30 Waxwings were around, either perched in nearby trees or raiding the 2 Rowan trees, despite the regular passing traffic and pedestrians.

Nice to meet up with local birders including Derek Morley (LBC) and Edmund (Lincoln RSPB Group)

Regards,

Freddy.

Managed to get in around 45 minutes on Tentercroft St today around 12.30 and saw well over 30 birds today, Mistle Thrush was battling to defend its tree well!

Still 40+ around, and looks like the berries may just last for the week-end

Over 30 Waxwings on Tentercroft Street at 12.30 today. They were quite active as there was a lot of traffic and pedestrians. Several settled in the Rowan trees within a few feet if you stood still
