doing surveys on the Humber bank today (a little chilly with force 6 easterly) I was a bit annoyed when a juv Pom flew down river past Killingholme Haven this morning and I failed to get the camera out -- after a chilly high tide at Pywipe that produced a Spotted Red and about 3000 gulls but nothing odd other than argentatus Herrings -- driving back past Stallin Power station a cloud of gulls just offshore were mobbing (presumably the same) juv Pom that had killed a Common Gull and was eating it on the water; a GBBGull at one stage picked up the Pom and dropped it again but it continued its feast until washed against the sea wall by a huge wave -- eventually it flew off up the Humber so may still be in the area -- about 350 Skylarks on 2 oilseed rape fields and several trying to feed on the concrete seawall -- pics of the Pom later |
