Post subject:  Observing Barn Owl Gipsey Bridge 06/12/2010

Watching a Barn Owl from the house 08.00am this morning. Working the dyke at the side of the road a few cars passing didn't halt the owl. But when a car with headlights came along the owl went up into a tree on the opposite side of the tree to the car. As soon as the car passed he set off hunting again. I watched him do this 4 times until he came to a junction in the dyke which took him away from the road.
We have a healthy group of owls around my house (Barn, Little, Tawney and occasional SE.) but I have never observed this behaviour before. Having used a car as cover to watch owls from but I did not approach with my lights on.
