Post subject:  Lesser-spotted woodpecker - Bourne

Lesser-spotted woodpecker in Elsea-Math Wood south of Bourne this and previous weekends. Bird heard drumming the SW part of the wood (and female seen there also) on 26th March - this is typically the most reliable part of the wood to try. But on the 3rd April, heard a male calling, saw it briefly in flight and then heard it drumming on the northern edge of the wood (towards the western end of the wood).

Also (on 3rd): 7 chiffchaff, 5 gt spotted woodpecker (most drumming), 3 green woodpecker, 2 blackcap, 4 song thrush, 4 stock dove, 1 jay and single treecreeper. This is a good wood for woodpeckers, nuthatch, marsh tit etc - and the anemones are superb at the moment
