Post subject:  Lincoln (Canwick) STW visit - 4 Sep

I have seen reports on the LBC website from Hugh Dorrington and Ian Misselbrook re the Dunsby Sewage Treatment Works (STW), (and I have visited it), especially around migration time, and from the Marston STW (also visited), but I have NEVER seen any such reports re the Lincoln (Canwick) STW. For that reason, I had always dismissed the idea of visiting it as rather pointless : no-one visits it as there's nothing to see.

However, this afternoon (Sun), and especially because it's 'migration time', I paid it a visit. It's a vast , sprawling complex run by Anglian Water, off the Washingborough Road out of Lincoln; it's c. 3 miles from the City Centre and slightly less from BBH. The complex stretches both sides of the main road but I found the N side section the more interesting. There's no parking problem near the entrance and one can walk 20/30 yards in off the road to scan ( as ever, through chainlink fencing ).

This afternoon, I saw (including) :

Green Sandpiper -1 feeding and in flight
Yellow Wagtail -1 juvenile, and 4 Pied Wagtails
Whitethroat -1 gorging on Elderberries
plus a few Swallows
and Mallard - c. 40
Moorhen.

So, at least, some birds were around. :D .......I'm sure I'll visit the site again.
