An autumnal cool and damp day gave me an autumnal birding experience. Berry laden hedgerows busy with finches and remnants of summer warblers, swallows and martins gathering in precious insect hotspots and the sounds of curlew carrying to my ear from the estuary. Amongst the regular expectations I added 5 juvenile ruff, a greenshank, 5 black tailed godwit and a single snipe. A male march harrier made a brief appearance. The wind picked up and my kettle called. |
