Hi,

Our first ever bittern was seen today in the south-east corner of the reedbed, 887 days after we first planted reeds there in June 2009!

Also today;
European white-fronted goose - now 26
Barnacle goose - 8
Dark-bellied brent goose - 1000
Pintail - 43 on the scrapes alone
Merlin - 2
Hen harrier - ringtail
Marsh harrier - female
Spotted redshank - 1
Ruff - 11
Scaup - female
Lapland bunting - 1

Cheers,

John

Extremely elusive during the afternoon - failed to find it. #-o

However, Barnacle geese and White-fronts still on reserve. Enormous numbers of Wigeon, Lapwing and Teal on all scrapes. Also circa 10 Snipe, 5 Little Grebe, 2 Dunlin, few Knot, 4 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 30 Goldfinch, 7 Mute Swan, 5 Black-tailed Godwit, 1 female Scaup, lots of Moorhen and Coot.

To accomplish your mission of attracting Bittern to the reserve within 2.5 years of planting the first reedbeds is excellent!
