Further to Pete's post, I visited Boultham Park, Lincoln late morning/early afternoon today (Sat) in bright, breezy weather.

The group of Goosanders was at the N end of the lake.....14 incl.3 drakes today. They were not at all flighty, 4 or 5 sitting up on the bank preening unconcernedly at one stage, with a cyclist passing only some 10 yards away. A regular local birder told me that 19 Goosanders had been present earlier in the week.

Also incl.
2 Herons
Cormorant
mobile Egyptian Goose - apparently a recent arrival
Sparrowhawk flew through
Charm of 7 Goldfinches feeding at the top of an Alder.

An attractive lake and parkland/woodland setting, backing on to the River Witham, with some 'good' birds especially considering it appears to be within the Lincoln City boundaries.

Thanks for the Goosander info, Pete. :D

Goosanders should stay around for a while Freddy, unless the lake
freezes up. They also often move to R Witham nearby, last year in
big freeze in Dec there was 25 on a short stretch of ice free water
near the laundry bridge.
You also find siskin, redpoll, goldcrest in trees around lake as
winter progresses.

cheers, pete

Thanks for the extra info, Pete......and the great thing is that Boultham Park is only a 10 minutes' or so drive from Bracebridge Heath.
