I was going through the gull flocks in fields just west of Stainby landfill just before mid day, when they all got up along with all the corvids and everything else. I swept the skies expecting a Peregrine but instead saw a Rough-legged Buzzard coming down from quite high at an angle before disappearing behind a line of trees. The white band on the tail showed well on what otherwise appeared to be quite a dark bird. Other birds present included 10 Red Kites, a Kestrel, all five commoner gulls, stock doves, red-legged partridges, corvids etc.
I went on to have one of my best raptor tallies in a day in Lincolnshire ever. This is my total for the day:-
11 Red Kites 1 Rough Legged Buzzard 5 Common Buzzards 2 Sparrowhawks 1 Merlin 16 Kestrels 6 Short-eared Owls
