The South Forty Foot Drain was almost completely frozen over except for three separate pools between Boston and Swineshead. These contained about 90 Mallard and just two Moorhen absolutely nothing else!
A Buzzard at Heckington and a second bird near Kikby la Thorpe close to the sewage works and Sardesons Farm. The surprise of the day was a Little Egret near Barkston. Both the River Witham and the Honington Beck are close by but only stream size. Several lineside bushes contained Fieldfare averaging about 20 at each site. Between Sleaford and Ancaster I recorded 8 Kestrels which seems a rather high number.
What a relaxing way to watch birds and in the warm too!

Yep - many a good hour whiled away doing that in recent years; I keep a 'Boston - Grantham List'. I think it runs to about 30 species! The buzzards around Heckington and Kirkby La Thorpe are very frequent. I've seen Oystercatcher, Common Tern, Cormorant, Goldeneye, Pochard and Barn Owl around or along the South Forty Foot.
