Driving to work past Burton Waters this morning at about 0730; an Oyster Catcher right in the middle of the roundabout, seemed to be feeding and oblivious to the traffic (as I was for a moment).

I remember from a birding trip to Scotland in 2006 that Oystercatchers were often seen there feeding on roadside verges and roundabouts, and even nesting on one roundabout.
Perhaps your bird was a visitor from North of the Border, Ian. :D

It get's better. Driving to work this morning, same time, same place "is there an Oystercatcher on the roundabout?"
No.
Instead there were 4 on the verge next to the roundabout! One with a great big worm dangling from it's bill.

Never had so much excitement whilst driving to work :)

PS By the way this is my lunch break.
