An email from Chris Wright - goodwinwright@hotmail.com Spotted flycatcher at Potterhanworth A pair are nesting in our Virginia creeper at the front of our north facing house. The young have just left the nest, hunting with their parents. Their favourite vantage point is on our car aerial and a broken breach of an almond tree. Watching them now! |

That's very interesting, Russell. We were at Grimsthorpe Castle (the next parish to Edenham) yesterday and definitely saw one and possibly two pairs. Together with those at Burghley is it possible that the south-west of the county provides a more suitable breeding habitat? |

.......not forgetting Dunsby (Hugh Dorrington) with 3 confirmed nests with young this summer....only a few miles from Edenham. But let's also not forget that the Wolds-Horncastle-Woodhall Spa area is also a very suitable breeding habitat with breeding reports so far this summer from Fulletby, Edlington, Normanby le Wold, Horncastle and Woodhall Spa (2 nests) ie. a 6 nest total. The Southrey Wood spot flys have hatched in the last few days so lets hope the weather improves to give them a chance to survive. |
