Few records for these past few days:
Redpolls, goldfinches and goldfinches were all moving south in the first 3 days of the period. Birklands Ringing Group are staying with us for the next couple of weeks and whilst I would see 2-3 redpolls flying around, they managed to catch unto 15 in a day. Similarly with goldcrests, I would be seeing perhaps a dozen in a 500mt stretch of dunes, but in the first 3 days, Birklands had ringed over 100.
Crossbill, 1S on 8th.
Bramblings, 1 on 6th south and small numbers each day since
Song thrushes have been present each morning in the bushes before heading SW, but never more than 20 seen Redwings were heard on evening of 5th and few in bushes on 6th before heading SW. Few birds everyday since. Mistle thrushes, 3, appeared on 8th increasing to 6 on 9th. Blackbirds have also been arriving, but in very small numbers. Fieldfare, single on 9th.
Buzzard singles on 6th and 9th. The latter was low over bushes, being mobbed by 7 crows at the same spot as a honey buzzard, also mobbed by 7 crows a week earlier.
Merlin on 6th and 1 seen at north end of reserve on 10th.
Jays first seen on 9th, with about 50 south and a similar number on the 10th. Smaller numbers each day since, but flying in various directions.
Red-necked grebe, about 90 common scoter and a guillemot on sea on 9th with arctic skua north.
