I don't appear to have the species 'Spitfire' in my Field Guide.... what colour are the loral stripes and median coverts of this bird? |

The Spitfire is a resident species at nearby Coningsby although has been in decline since the late 1940's. Renown for its aerobatics has a power unit of the same name as a fairly uncommon winter visitor to our county namely Falco columbarius. |

......and not forgetting the 2 large raptors, with equally low flight habit, which I also saw at Nocton Fen last Saturday.....they have a vertical take-off and landing capability if suddenly surprised : eg. by a low-flying Spitfire.... Freddy |
