Amongst the mist and mirk we have redwing. A flock of about 20 were restless around Water's Egde CP today and tonight, in the dark sky, I hear them passing overhead.

The redwing have arrived. Heard them passing overhead during the darkness of monday evening and this morn we had 120 on the Reserve. 13 fieldfare passed west overhead and 300 starling also passed west in small groups. Chowder looked like an african plain with grazers all over it. 100+ teal and 88 wigeon were spread out feeding on the surface moss/algae. 101 lapwing mixed in and pink foot geese overhead, calling from inside the dense fog. An atmospheric experience and if you closed your eyes and listened it all became richer and better defined. Lapwing singing, wigeon and teal whistling, malllard rasping, pink feet yapping, curlew bubbling and not a breath of wind. The fog excluded the outside world and I enjoyed the concert. AS
